when dudes say they’ve been friendzoned i like to imagine rod serling waiting impatiently to escort their entitled manchildren butts into the alternate dimension they’ve created for themselves— a dimension not only of sound, but of mind. a journey into the land of their imaginations.

welcome to The Friend Zone.

To celebrate the exciting return of Arrested Development, a few of us greeting card artists put our heads (and pencils) together and whipped up a (fake) mini-line of greeting cards that anyone can download and print out for free!

It’s super easy! Download the high-res files here. They even come with a dotted line for the fold and should print easily to your basic home printer.

And if you like them, please share them to your heart’s content!

I’m getting really fucking sick of Tumblr.
I can’t even believe someone would be so much of an ass to write up something like this. I’m stunned, really.
Or perhaps I’m not so stunned. Perhaps I’m used to the fans on this website making complete morons out of themselves when it comes to their beloved fandoms. Perhaps I see this all the time and this is just a case of it being taken too far. Perhaps this is the last straw.
Whatever the case is, I’m at my wit’s end here.
These TV shows are much more than your pointless pairings. All you fangirls seem to care about are “super kawaii homo pairs omg OTP!” Did you forget that there is an actual fucking show happening. There’s a plot and there are other characters.
It’s like you don’t even watch the show! You just stare at the screen, bored, until you see your “kawaii OTP 5ever” interact. Then you twist whatever you think happens in the show to fit your “OTP” and their “love story” until it isn’t even a show anymore! It’s just your fucking bullshit that doesn’t even make any sense.
People put work into these TV shows/movies/books/etc. People invest their time, money, effort, and talent into these things. You know that and you continue to just fuck up their work.
And the worst part is? You post it on Tumblr.
There’s a 95% chance that none of us want to see this bullshit. Most of the people on Tumblr shudder from second hand embarrassment when they see this. The really dedicated fans of the show who, unlike these fans, have a grip on reality wish you weren’t in the fandom. They wonder why you can’t just enjoy the shows without being so obnoxious.
BUT WHOA THERE HOLD ON A MINUTE DON’T GET ME WRONG HERE.
Being in a fandom is okay.
Shipping things is okay.
WANNA KNOW WHAT ISN’T????
Twisting and perverting a show to house your fantasies.
Fucking up a show until it’s hardly the same just to thrust your OTP into it.
Being a “fan” of the show for the “kawaii homos”.
Doing all of that and putting it on Tumblr.

TL;DR
Being in a fandom only for your OTP, posting ridiculous shit on Tumblr, and ruining fandoms is not okay.

Okay, this post really pissed me off and I apologise to my dash.
I get it. You see that post and it pisses you off. I won’t disagree that there are some serious issues regarding that post. But tagging this generalizing rant about fandom and shipping, particularly in specific fandom tags, is not okay.

haha omg that first rant is so wrong it hurts
sorry, but shipping isn’t “perverting” or “twisting” shows, shipping does not mean you necessarily think or want that pairing to become canon.
seeing homoerotic tension in shows like the above (particularly in shows like Merlin and Sherlock which are frankly fuelling the fan fire pretty blatantly, and Torchwood which just explicitly shows homosexual and bisexual relationships all the time) is not perverting or twisting okay.
It’s not harming the creators, it’s not marring something people have worked hard to create, it’s seeing two characters and thinking “well hey, they’d be good together”. It doesn’t harm the fandom or the creators, it just encourages creativity and attracts more viewers - something which the creators would no doubt approve of.
Now fetishising etc is a totally separate issue, but don’t try and claim that 95% of Tumblr cringe at posts like the above because frankly, look at the number of notes it has. Clearly not true.
Just reinforcing the brilliant reply above.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

okay but let’s not pretend that the post above is not absolutely ridiculous and honestly you’re wrong if you don’t see something wrong with that. ship all you want, but those posts DO become a problem. people who make those posts are the people who put fandom insignia on their LGBT* gear or support equal marriage by saying shit like “my otp can be canon!” it’s fucked up and we should not encourage it alright
also: shipping definitely can and does become a problem when people don’t know boundaries. some celebrities are extremely uncomfortable talking about ships, and i would imagine most are uncomfortable if someone has the gall to actually ask about their sexual practices or if they’re secretly fucking their on screen friend/brother/colleague/whatever or about fan fiction etc. i’ve seen people try to show them fucking pornographic fanart. it’s embarrassing and bordering on harassment in some-to-many cases.
tldr: that first comment on the post hated it for the wrong reasons, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves by saying that post is okay at all, and that fans who say shit like this are okay AT ALL.
